wedding wednesday: a look into a laotian wedding ceremony

I have been showing alot of American style wedding photos. Today I wanted to switch gears and show a Lao traditional wedding (baci wedding). I've posted pics on the blog before, however this post is a lot more in depth. Souwan and I will have a traditional Lao wedding as well as an American wedding. Lao weddings take place in the morning or in the evening (sun down). Ours will be in the morning, later in the afternoon is our American wedding. The groom's procession ( Hae keuy) will be the beginning of the wedding day. The family of the groom walks him to the bride's home and sings/asks questions to the bride's family. A fun exchange before entering the bride'

birthday, bikes and berries

On Sunday my family and I celebrated Ben's fourth birthday. My baby cousin. He loves marvel characters, bikes, google nexus tablet, dancing, cars and soccer. He dislikes swinging high, dogs, cats and fishes. It maybe safe to say he will not be a future veterinarian. (I'll have video posted later. Check back for video of ben's birthday bash!) We got this candle from IKEA (a home decor/furniture store). It's called Tindra, made in Poland. This candle was very inexpensive. At $2, this candle is divine! I was surprised at the strong, fragrant tropical scent from this inexpensive candle. It's a medium sized candle compared to the large one from Bath and Body Works and Yankee Candle we have. It came in a glass container, but without a lid. I wish it had a lid! Other than the lid, the tropical fragrance was great and worth the $2. We will have to go and get more of these! National Margarita Day was on Friday. Souwan and I celebrated on our own at home.

outfit of the day: a snow staple

what i wore: Lola puffer coat (gift), F21 white jeggings, Target rain boots, Marshall's cloche hat A staple, when it snows, is a giant puffer coat. AKA Marshmellow coat to me. I got this coat my first trip to Alabama. I met my fiance's mother (then boyfriend's) and she kindly gifted me this coat. I look forward to wearing it every winter! Late Saturday afternoon it snowed, I ran around with joy! I grabbed my boots and giant puffer coat to go outside and play. It was so pretty to see the snow fall. Check out my last post for the video and more photos!

valentine's day and vanishing snow

My mom's tulips are in full bloom. I was surprised to see some purple tint with the pink tulips. Fat Tuesday was this past Tuesday. It's the start of lent, giving or pledging something until Easter. It's much like a new year's resolution. Eating pancakes is part of fat tuesday (pancake tuesday) to start off lent and means eating rich for the last night before fasting. Souwan and I made pancakes together. Since we didn't get off work in time for church, this would suffice. Valentine's day is not a huge celebration in our home. We don't give much gifts, other than my mom's flowers (which has been a tradition since I was a child). Souwan and I started dating in college; with little money we started our own tradition with making thoughtful cards. This year, I did ask for some chocolate and Souwan got me three different kinds. My favorite is the Rocher. It's nutty goodness! We also enjoyed a sushi (takeout) dinner together before watching idol a

outfit of the day: cargo and carmen sandiego

To all my readers, y'all are my valentines! Love y'all! what i wore: express button up, target cargo pants and sunglasses, american eagle shoes, belk's bag I wore this look to go look at tuxes with my fiance and his groomsmen. It was a good choice, cargo pants are associated with men, mostly. I paired it with a button up which still has a macho yet girly vibe. It was nice to wear my American Eagle clogs! I don't get to wear it very often in the office. It looked flattering with this look. If you did not see in an earlier post, I changed my hair color! I am liking the darker hairstyle. My fiance says it makes me look mysterious. I'm no notorious Carmen Sandiego, Jr detective, (a cartoon character from my childhood that taught kids geography, history, math and english) but it gives me a dark and edgy feel!
