kiengkham's korner: racing to the vineyard

Before we started our fourth of July weekend, Souwan took me out to Childress Vineyards. Childress Vineyard's owner is Richard Childress who was a race car driver. I think it's a beautiful vineyard and a must visit. There is a bistro where Souwan and I had lunch. Pssst, the food is really good! They have a great selection of wine in there gift shop and wine tasting for those of you who have not tried North Carolina wines. I think Muscadine wine is a must and get one in every variety!!   I had so much fun. It was a beautiful day to stroll around the vineyard and drink a nice cold frozen Senorita (a margarita flavored wine slush...mouthful!)     Phone pics of our lunch. Souwan had a tasty brisket sandwich and seafood soup and I had a lobster sandwich and seafood soup. We shared the frozen Senorita for dessert (an adult beverage if you aren't familiar =D )

wine,BBQ, & family

{I forgot my camera, but Dina had her camera phone!} {We chowed down on everything. So not really much to capture. Ha!} {New flowers in the yard} Dina came down to visit the family over Easter. It is always great to have another girl around. I grew up with 6 boys. I love them, but its nice to get a break and hang with a girl. We went back to the winery {Childress Vineyards} to have lunch and do some shopping. Later on we met up with the rest of the family for a BBQ. The family sat around chatting. My family can be chatterboxes. Can you tell from me? Ha! {images from google} The next day we went to see Soul Surfer. Its such an inspiring movie. A must see!! I cried like a baby. The movie is based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton and her life after the shark attack. {She is an American professional surfer and part of team Rip Curl.} She turned to faith, helping others, support from her family, friends and fans. Bethany visited Thailand after the tsunami and her attac...

A Toast to Us!

By: Souwan Many of you may have known that Lisa and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary on Monday, April 11th. While at the Childress Vineyards, we learned a few things about tasting/drinking wine. The vineyard offers a “tasting flight” in which they serve you three courses, each presented with a different wine. This allows you to discover how food and wine complement each other. 1st Course: Chipotle Black Bean Soup paired with Sangiovese Their Sangiovese is a rich, complex red wine with luscious and bright fruit flavor. This wine cuts through the spicy savory taste of the Chipotle Black Bean Soup. 2nd Course: Pan-seared Catfish with Cornbread Shrimp Stuffing paired with Sauvignon Blanc Their Sauvignon Blanc has nose of citrus, figs, and honeydew melon with a crisp fresh ending of butterscotch and sweet grass. This pairs great with the flaky sweet flavor of the fish. 3rd Course: Bourbon Panna Cotta paired with Late Harvest Viognier The Late Harvest Viognier is a ...

Boy meets girl

6 years earlier.... {fall 2004} Boy meets girl in the elevator at school {college}. Girl starts small talk. Boy and girl run into eachother a couple of times at parties. Boy and girl become friends. {spring 2005} Our friends Lori and Geoff work their magic. And when IM is still the way to talk. Klumzie256: Do you pick up your phone? Drpepgrl57: Oh I left it in the car! Klumzie256: Lunch? Drpepgrl57: Yes {I still leave my phone in the car ha!} It was probably a longer conversation. On April 11th we meet up at the dorms.Where do all college kids go on a date? The mall of course. No? Well we did. There was eating, talking about our families, and I accidently kicked him. Not sure how that happened. We laugh about that til this day! On May 4th 2005 we go on facebook and confirm that we are in a relationship. And that has been the day we celebrate our anniversary. Except this year. We decided to celebrate on our "first date" anniversary {April 11th}. That and be...
