painting our way into the new year (thai/laos new year)

8 years ago on April 11th, my fiance and I went on our first date. This past week we celebrated that moment. It's wonderful thinking back to 8 years. In less than two months we will become husband and wife!   (click photos to expand)     I saw a recipe on Pinterest for teeth whitening. I'm trying it out. I hope it works!   We started celebrating Thai/Lao New Year. We kicked it off at Wat Buddharam in Charlotte. Happy New Year to all! I enjoyed shopping and eating at Wat Buddharam.       I met up with my girlfriends for dinner at Uncle Buck's and a night on the town. It was great weather to walk around town.       My brother has a a home/property business. He asked for some help to come paint one of his homes. We turned it into a paint party. It was another beautiful day to open the doors and windows to paint. I think we did a wonderful job and my brother was very ha...

Songkran @ Wat Prazanimit

The next couple of weekends Thai & Laotions around the world will be celebrating (Songkran) New Year 2012 (Pee Mai=New Year). Wat Prazanimit in North Carolina celebrated this weekend among others. Our family will be going to a couple of temples to celebrate.     Almsgiving had good attendance this year. (Even a majority of my family were able to be in attendance-rare sight. Cheers to that!) The temple was packed-with people even sitting outside. It was a warm day too.  (click photos for larger size) After almsgiving (begins early in the morning and ends in the afternoon) we head to the outside grounds to celebrate. My favorite part of New Year! There is food, pageant/parade for the New Year, and traditional dancing/music. BTW I reunited with my traditional lao dance teacher!! We became so nostalgic. She was THE BEST teacher. With the pageant also brought back memories. Wayyy back in the old days- haha. I was runne...

Songkran {Thai/Lao New Year}

Dress: Forever 21 Shoes: Payless Today is the Thai and Lao New Year. Happy New Year!! Thai/Lao New Year is celebrated April 13th-15th. During this time many will clean their homes to symbolize renewal to oneself. Also there are huge water fights. Three days long of water fights! This origniated from the time water was used to throw on buddhist statues, images, and on the shoulders of people as a blessing and goodluck. People also use powder and whip cream.
