wedding wednesday: confessions of a DIY bride

I never thought about being a DIY bride. I noticed after I got engaged how money was tight. Souwan and I didn't want to spend our savings and 401k all on a wedding. My parents and his chipped in a little, the rest was up to us. I should have started saving when I was a kid! I had never thought about linens, flatware, catering, and alcohol for a wedding. I was concerned with envisioning everything together. "Will it look tacky or will it be everything I thought it to be?" I feel like it will be a chaotic day. We are on a time crunch and I have little time to help setup. It concerns me how everything will turn out. Not knowing and having the nightmare of "what could be" is overwhelming and stressful. I have never help plan or plan any sort of party to this magnitude. I first thought it to be easy, but proved myself wrong. I have learned to be creative. If you like something you see, but can't afford it, be creative and try to re-create the look. My signs, ...

wedding wednesday: projects and emotions

A wedding update! I have been overwhelmed with wedding projects and planning. December was our 6 month mark til the big day. We are excited and anxious for it. I sent out save the dates to our closest family and friends (invites will go out to everyone soon). I'm getting great responses from my soon to be family and family. The save the dates were one of the many projects I had to complete. I'll be honest this past month it has been tense and full of emotions. Plenty of happy and stressed moments. Our 6th month mark we have completed many of our "to dos": Bridesmaids Dresses. Have been picked! I'm very happy this was one of the easiest. Hopefully all the girls look good and feel good! Our engagement photos were fun and funny. Souwan and I are not photogenic. We feel pretty awkward cuddling and kissing for the camera. I think we got some great laughs. We reserved our baker for our wedding cake,  Karen Pharr of Karen's Cakes and Cafe Pharr. That...

wedding wednesday: envisioning your wedding

Since we're a year away from the wedding we do not have much to plan. One fun thing to do right now is envisioning the wedding day. The part I like!! As a kid I dreamt of this day, but not so much the details ha! So many thoughts of decor and details running through my mind right now. I have to create a list to start finding all of these fun stuff i'm thinking of. I'm trying not to loose it all. Paris would be a dream for me. It's old architecture, breath taking views, & the Eiffel tower lit with lights. Since it would be difficult to bring all of the family and friends to Paris, we will use it as our inspiration. Still have a lot of time and ideas. The fiancee and I chose red and white for our colors. This was a difficult part. There are gazillions of colors to choose from. I jumped to many different color schemes! Green, blue, pink, yellow etc. No joke. Red/White makes it feel romantic and classic! With red/white roses and candles! Lots of flower...
