kiengkham's korner: racing to the vineyard

Before we started our fourth of July weekend, Souwan took me out to Childress Vineyards. Childress Vineyard's owner is Richard Childress who was a race car driver. I think it's a beautiful vineyard and a must visit. There is a bistro where Souwan and I had lunch. Pssst, the food is really good! They have a great selection of wine in there gift shop and wine tasting for those of you who have not tried North Carolina wines. I think Muscadine wine is a must and get one in every variety!!   I had so much fun. It was a beautiful day to stroll around the vineyard and drink a nice cold frozen Senorita (a margarita flavored wine slush...mouthful!)     Phone pics of our lunch. Souwan had a tasty brisket sandwich and seafood soup and I had a lobster sandwich and seafood soup. We shared the frozen Senorita for dessert (an adult beverage if you aren't familiar =D )

kiengkham's korner: Fourth of July

This was our first Fourth of July at our first home. We (Souwan) grilled burgers, chicken and some vegetables from our garden . I made the family one of my favorite salads using the string beans from our garden. After having lunch with my family we watched a little bit of soccer and Nathan's hot dog contest. I was a little disgusted yet amazed these guys can eat all of those.   Souwan and I headed out to spend time in our town for the fourth evening. Souwan joined in spray painting the wall and enjoyed some of our favorite child hood candy from the candy store.   After walking around downtown, we headed over to my friend Chris's family home for an evening of firework and more food with our friends and family. If you have never had the food from the Filipino BBQ at Autumn Jubilee, you are missing out buddy. Great stuff! I didn't get a picture because it disappeared so quickly. I tried the famous sparkler photo shot, but I didn't have much ...

Kiengkham's Korner: scrumptious coconut cake!

My girlfriend shared her grandma's coconut cake and we made a pretty scrumptious one! It's a heart attack waiting to happen kind of cake, but it's so good! I'm definitely going to make it again. Our coupon haul is smaller this week. Before coupons = $32.05 After coupons = $7.72! More savings for our heat pump and Disney 2015 trip! Last year I learned to sew a few things. I have a break for the fourth of July so I'm working on more sewing projects. This week's garden update. We got to pick our Jalapeños and added it to our chili dinner and had it in our chicken salad sandwich for lunch. We also picked the string beans. I am going to use them in my Thai salad for the fourth of July with my family. Our gladiolus flowers are blooming so beautifully, they give our yard a tropical look. I'm loving it!
